Waste collection 2026
In 2026, waste collection in our municipality will change. What will change for you depends on where you live. With these measures, we want to reduce the amount of residual waste.
When will these changes go into effect?
The changes will start in 2026. You will receive more info about what is going to change for you and when. We will keep you informed every step of the way.
Why are we doing this?
Waste is valuable! Everything consists of raw materials. By separating waste properly, we can recycle raw materials and turn them into new products. This allows us to extract value from waste. Unfortunately, many of these valuable raw materials still end up in residual waste. That's a real shame! Everything you put in your residual waste as a resident goes to the incinerator.
And the more residual waste we have, the higher the waste collection tax. This is the municipal tax you pay as a resident for the collection and processing of waste. That is why we want to significantly reduce the amount of residual waste. This is good for the environment and for your wallet!
What will change?
Several changes are being made to waste collection in our municipality. What will change for you depends on where you live.
Questions and answers
General information
Is it already certain that these changes will go ahead?
The municipal council approved the changes on 17 September 2024. This means that the decision to implement the measures has been taken.
Why are these changes being made?
The municipality of Waalwijk wants to improve waste separation. This will allow more valuable raw materials to be reused and reduce the amount of residual waste. Proper waste separation benefits both your wallet and the environment.
Why these changes in particular?
In 2022 and 2023, residents in various neighbourhoods participated in waste collection trials. Their experiences helped us make decisions for the entire municipality.
How will I know what is changing for me and when?
Every resident will receive a leaflet in January 2026. This leaflet will explain what is changing for each type of housing and each type of waste. You will also receive a letter with information that applies specifically to your address.
What should I do if I do not receive the letter or have lost it?
Then contact Inovim on working days between 08.00 and 17.00 hours on 085 07 04 216 (local rate). Inovim is our partner that replaces the bins for the municipality. They will be happy to help you!
Do I need to be at home for the delivery or replacement of the bins?
No, you do not need to stay at home for this. Just make sure you have the bins ready and empty. You will receive further information about when this will take place.
What happens if I move house or get a new home?
Are you moving to or within our municipality? Or are you moving into a new home? You will then receive the correct bins and information about how to dispose of your waste.
How are these measures paid for?
The costs are paid for from the waste collection levy. This is the municipal tax that you pay as a resident for the collection and processing of waste.
How do I know whether or not my apartment or residential complex will receive an organic waste container?
We are currently investigating which complexes will and will not receive an organic waste container. You will receive information about this in good time.
Will smaller apartment complexes also receive an organic waste container?
No, we will work together to find a way for you to separate your organic waste and offer it for collection.
How does disposing of organic waste in an organic waste container work?
After an organic waste container has been installed, you will receive a letter explaining how to use it.
Organic waste
What will happen to my old organic waste bin?
Your old organic waste bin will be recycled. The materials will be reused to make new products.
What happens if I do not make a choice between a large or small organic waste bin?
Then you will automatically receive a new 140-litre bin, the same as your current bin.
I currently have two 140-litre organic waste bins. Will I get two back?
No, each household will receive a maximum of one new organic waste bin. You can request a larger 240-litre bin using the personal login code provided in the letter.
What is the difference between a 140-litre and a 240-litre bin?
A 240-litre bin is almost twice as large as a 140-litre bin. This is the same size as your current residual waste bin.
Can I change the size of my organic waste bin at a later date?
Yes, you can. However, there is a charge for this.
Residual waste
Why am I getting a smaller bin for residual waste?
Good waste separation results in less residual waste. A smaller bin helps with this, saves space and reduces costs for everyone.
How often will my residual waste be collected?
In most areas, this will remain the same, namely once every four weeks. In rural areas, we will now collect residual waste once every four weeks, instead of once every two weeks as is currently the case.
Won't that cause odours or nuisance?
Odours or nuisance are usually caused by organic waste such as food scraps. This waste can be disposed of with the organic waste. Waste such as nappies and incontinence materials can be disposed of separately at the recycling centre or in the nappy bins. For more information, got to www.waalwijk.nl/luiers. An overview of the locations can be found via the button below.
Must I return the old residual waste bin clean?
No, that is not necessary. Just make sure that the old bin is empty.
Will residual waste become more expensive if organic waste collection becomes free?
No, the collection of residual waste will not become more expensive.
PMD
Why is there no separate PMD bin?
We are not opting for an additional PMD bin, as we do not want to burden residents with even more bins. The current system of collecting PMD in bags is working well. The bags are easy to put out and easy to collect. This system is also more practical and cheaper.
Waste paper
Will it still be free to dispose of old paper and cardboard?
Yes, it will remain free of charge. Only the method of disposal will change: from now on, you will use a paper bin.
Where do I put my paper bin?
In the same place as your residual waste bin and organic waste bin, usually marked by a paving stone with an image of a bin. We call this the bin collection point.
Will residents in apartments and residential complexes also receive a paper bin?
No, you will continue to deliver your waste paper and cardboard in bundles.
Collection
What if my bin has not been exchanged?
Then contact Inovim on working days between 08.00 and 17.00 hours on 085 07 04 216 (local rate). Inovim helps residents and can schedule an extra collection or exchange time.
What should I do if I am unsure which bin something belongs in?
Check the Afvalwijzer app. It states where each type of waste should be disposed of. You can also enter waste that you are unsure about. The app will immediately show you where it belongs. This ensures that waste does not end up in the residual waste.
Will I receive a notification when my waste is collected?
Yes, you can set a reminder in the Afvalwijzer app. This way, you always know when to put out which waste. You will receive a letter about important changes.
